For those new students who may not know what karate is all about….

Karate is a system of self-defence that is practiced with bare feet and a martial arts kimono called a ‘Gi’. Training involves different postures and body movements including punching, kicking, blocking, throwing, and wrestling. Training equipment such as mats, striking targets, and kick shields are used for safety.

Competition is in either the Kumite (fighting) category or the Kata (pattern) category. Athletes compete against each other attempting to score points. The player with the highest score moves forward in the competition until the gold medal is awarded.

Free Karate and Self-Defence Workshops

Your-body-is-more-capable

Leslieville Karate School is hosting a series of free workshops about karate and self-defence.

The purpose of these classes are to introduce what karate is, how to train, and how it works as self-defence knowledge.

No special equipment or training gear is necessary. Simply wear clothes that don’t restrict your movement, such as a t-shirt and track pants. Please avoid over loose or baggy clothing, snug (not tight) fitting is better when we are working with the body.

Each class will have a slightly different focus and each workshop is a stand alone class. You need not attend one to attend another. Come to as many as you like.

These workshops are appropriate for Adult and Mature Teen students (14+ yrs), men and women. Classes deal with mature subject matter in adult language.
