The 3rd and final Ontario championship tournament is coming up at the new PanAm Center in Unionville. Located just North of the 407 and Kennedy Rd, this wonderful facility is the perfect setting for athletes and coaches from all over Ontario to come and compete to see who can claim the title of the top spot in the province.
This is the last opportunity for this year for athletes to gain ranking points and qualify for a spot on the Ontario Team to go to the National Championship later this year. Because of the importance of this tournament, you will get to see some high level competition, as everyone is going all out to ensure that they are the ones on the podium.
With Karate being included in the 2020 Olympics, this tournament has been opened to all karate styles and clubs, regardless of association. This means that non-Karate Ontario clubs have a chance to compete here as well, increasing the amount of competitors and matches. With more athletes, there is more to watch and enjoy.
We hope you come out to watch and cheer on the athletes. There is a minimal fee for entry, and the tournaments can last all day long. For all who are interested in spectating, we suggest packing a lunch and/or snacks. There are typically vendors at the site, however you may be limited by the selection. Alternatively, you could explore more of Unionville and find out what the town has to offer.
For anyone interested in participating in this exciting sport in the future, we have a new program that has just opened this weekend. The class is for both new beginners and more experienced athletes, with the focus being on development of athletic abilities and learning/understanding the rules of competition. The course runs Sundays at 2pm and is taught by our Head Coach, himself a former National Champion and PanAm level athlete. For more information on the sport program, click here.
